Lignum Vitae
Antique Lawn Bowl Reworks
Below you will find a new
enterprise for the website and something that we have been
advertising on popular auction websites for a number of years. We
select high quality grains and defined wood patterns on aged
Lignum Vitae English Antique Lawn Bowls and rework the generally
worn, tired and damaged exteriors to reveal the true beauty of one
of the hardest wearing, most attractive and rarest wood types ever
manufactured. Generally for display as stand alone shelf or
cabinet objects, these can also be used as paper weights, book
ends or door stops, or gifted to anybody who appreciates fine
workmanship and quality materials, long before the age of plastic.
These items are hand finished, through several sanding and
lapping stages of abrasion and a gloss finish is achieved using
nothing other than natural oils from the wood, hand polishing,
lots of patience and a keen eye for detail.
A very light protective coat of Renaissance Wax is added for
protection. More information on Lignum Vitae is available
here

Brass Polishing:
We also offer a brass polishing service, where we remove all exterior brass fittings and polish to a high sheen which seems to be popular when matching a metronome to a piano for display purposes. We do not clean the fittings by default unless we feel the unit warrants it and any item shown on the website without cleaned brass-work is sold as viewed. We will however, under instruction polish fittings once a unit has been purchased for a standard charge of £9.95. Occasionally metronomes can be fitted with nickel silver or copper metal-work and in most cases these are best left to develop a deep handling patina. We will advise if we do not think that a unit would benefit from this service.
